Skogafoss  -  Look for this easy-to-spot waterfall along the Ring Road about 105km east of Selfoss (the town) and 103km west of Kirkjubæjarklaustur. There should be ample parking.

Seljalandsfoss - seen from ring road

Svartifoss is situated in Skaftafell national park in S-Iceland. The national park is 4.807 km2 and an oasis after driving through the vast sands of Skeiðará "Skeiðarársandur". At the Visitor centre you can get information on how to get to Svartifoss waterfall. It is 1,5 kilometres from the Visitor centre, uphill and on the way to Svartifoss you come across 2 other waterfalls Þjófafoss (Thieves' fall) and Hundafoss (Dogs´fall). The hike is ca 90 minutes back and forth with stops, and you can then walk down to Svartifoss to see it up-close.

Reynisdrangar - This is simply a magical spot. Driving east from Reykjavik, this is a turnoff just before the Ring Road winds around one last big hill to reach the small, charming town of Vik. From the Ring Road, you drive five minutes or so south toward the coast. There is a small parking lot there.

Dettifoss - The east bank is the more touristy side though it too requires driving on a bumpy unsealed 2wd road on Route 864 (though this route is not nearly as rough as 862; even tour bases take it). From Reykjalið, head east on the Ring Road for about 37km (or 19km beyond the turnoff for Route 862). Just beyond the bridge over Jökulsá á Fjöllum, turn left onto Route 864 and follow this wide and relatively tame unsealed road for about 31km. There's a signposted turnoff to the left leading the last kilometer to the car park. From there, it's a short 10-15 minute descent to the brink of Dettifoss. Even though we managed to see this waterfall from both sides of the river, we felt that the east bank was the better side to experience this falls since we were able to get right up to its brink after hiking for about 1.4km upstream (maybe a little over a half-hour or so each way) from Dettifoss.

Distance: 2,5 km (circle Detifoss+Selfoss)
Walking time: 1hr
Starting point: Dettifoss parking area
Route difficulty: Easy route (blue)

Selfoss - The 1.4 km trail to Selfoss is well marked, and starts at Dettifoss. From the parking area to Dettifoss is a 1 km walk (one way). It is possible to go the same way back. However, it is interesting to keep on south, along the riverbank towards Selfoss and then go the more westerly route back to the parking area and close the circle.

Godafoss - The falls is very close to the Ring Road, the east bank seemed to yield some short walks leading to full contextual views from the top as well as frontal views of the falls from near the level of the river. This waterfall is well-signed and right off the Ring Road between Akureyri and Mývatn (about 50km east of Akureyri and 49km west of Reykjalið). The turnoff for the west bank car park is about 1.1km on the Ring Road east of the turnoff for Route 842. The turnoff for the east bank area is about 300m further east just on the other side of the bridge.

Fjaðrárgljúfur - Take road no. 1 from Selfoss direction Höfn. Just before arriving at Kirkjubæjarklaustur take exit to road no. F206 to Lakagígjar. After few minutes drive the road to Laki leads to the right. Do not take the right turn to Laki instead you should continue the drive for few more minutes until you arrive at Fjaðrárgljúfur.
